It is heartbreaking to see the aftermath of the February 6, 2012 earthquake . Ralph and I reside in Hinigaran which is one of the areas that has also been shaken by the quake although we were grateful that no major damage occurred. The damage that I have noticed however, are the little kids who have been traumatized by the intensity of the earthquake. Most of them have acquired a low-grade fever from the incident.
Unfortunately, our fellowmen coming from the Negros Oriental province are the ones who suffered most of the devastation. According to GMA News, hopes of finding survivors from the earthquake-triggered landslides in Negros Oriental are fading fast as aftershocks continue to shake the affected areas. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) lists 71 persons missing in landslides in two barangays.
Coastal cities and towns on the eastern coast of Negros Island —Guihulngan, La Libertad, Jimalalud, Tayasan, Majuyod, Bindoy and Dumaguete — bore the brunt of the shock waves from the earthquake initially recorded as magnitude-6.9 at the epicenter.
The quake’s strength has since been downgraded to magnitude-6.7.
Guihulngan City sustained the heaviest damage, according to the NDRRMC. Its water supply system “was totally damaged,” electric power facilities were down and mobile communication facilities were offline.

In other news that is somewhat related to the calamity, one person had made a comment that triggered a powerful reaction from the people in the Visayas region. The commenting system showed to be from Yahoo! where a certain Ahcee Flores, posted:
“Let us all pray …… na matuloy ang tsunami para maraming bisaya ang mamatay, para mabawasan ang mga baduy sa Pilipinas.”
Translation taken from BrainCountour.Com:
“Let us all pray… that the tsunami would happen so many people from the Visayas would die and we could lessen the number of “low-class” citizens in the Philippines.”
Not contented with her earlier despicable remarks and probably after learning that the tsunami alert in Cebu has been lifted off, she added:
“Di bale guys, kundi man matuloy ang tsunami ngayon , wag tayo mag-alala, marami pa namang pagkakataon na darating. Matutuloy din yan. Just keep on praying.”
Translation taken from BrainCountour.Com:
“Don’t worry guys, if the tsunami won’t happen today, there are chances of it happening. It will happen. Just keep on praying.”
I don’t know how someone can even say something like that at this time when people were missing because their houses were buried from the landslide, and kids are getting sick from the trauma of the whole incident. I don’t know if she’s only after the fame of being known, but what good will it do to her when all she’s getting are haters and not followers?
I created a page Ahcee Flores: Forever Banned from Hinigaran in my Hinugyaway social networking site that will remind my fellow Hinigaranon not to let this one slide. I call on my fellow BISAYA people to be vigilant on this matter. We are known to be the tough ones in the Philippines. Let us demand that this person apologizes to all the people of Visayas especially to the victims of the earthquake tragedy.
